The peace, tranquillity and calm of the countryside without the intrusions of modern day life is only enhanced by the fields of sunflowers in the summer months. The Chateau also has fantastic wildflowers planted around the front garden.
Commanding a hilltop position there are glorious and far reaching views in all directions including the snow- capped Pyrenees. The gardens include a heated swimming pool with terraces and pool house, an English style formal rose garden, herbaceous borders, lavender parterre gardens, sweeping lawns, specimen trees, ponds, fountains and numerous attractive terraces for dining and lounging.
The 12m x 6m heated pool is set within a walled ruin, with pool side dining and views for miles. There are numerous terraces including a covered dining terrace which is ideal for long lazy evenings and this opens out from the Kitchen into a very pretty and private courtyard area.
The Chateau is set in beautiful quiet rolling countryside but is also well placed for accessing the beautiful region of the Gers. The local village of La Romieu is under a 5 minute drive from the Chateau and it has 2 restaurants, a small grocery store, boulangerie and tabac. The Roman spa town of Lectoure is 15 minutes away and provides excellent, shopping and recreational facilities whilst the delightful towns of Condom and Agen are all within a thirty minute drive. Although the Gers is renowned for its quiet pace of live, throughout the summer the area comes alive with fetes and special events including the bull fighting at Vic Fezensac in May, the Country and Western Festival at Mirande in July and the Jazz at Marciac in August, to mention just a few. For the more active there are plenty of sporting activities including Golf at Fleurance which is a 15/20 minute drive from the Chateau.
Gers is one of the least populated areas of Europe, devoid of tourists and remains very French, unspoilt and friendly. There are numerous beautiful bastide villages that are well worth a visit especially on the morning of the weekly market. The larger towns of Condom, Agen, Pau, Auch are all accessible. This area of South West France is a gourmet's delight with its foie gras, duck, Armagnac and prunes. There is a wide variety of restaurants to suit all budgets and tastes. Toulouse, Bordeaux and Biarritz are close enough to be visited for the day and during the winter skiing can be enjoyed in the nearby Pyrenees.
The Chateau is close to both Bordeaux and Toulouse airports. The vibrant city of Bordeaux is approximately 1hr 30 minutes drive by car and Toulouse is approximately 1hr 40 minutes by car. Both are large airports which provide scheduled services throughout Europe including many destinations throughout the UK. Agen is just a 20 minute drive away and daily services to Paris and accommodates all private jets. The TGV train is available from Agen to Paris throughout the day with a journey time of approximately 4 hours.
