Price and Availability

This collection of stunning 16th century properties including a farmhouse, maison d’amis and outbuildings offers a sense of retreat from the real world with amazing views over the Dordogne countryside. Yet, it is just a short drive to Monpazier which has been awarded the accolade of one of the most beautiful towns in France. As well as being beautiful, it has many shops, boutiques, galleries, restaurants and bars.

After following a private lane up and into the Domaine, you will be in awe of the charm and welcome that greets you, not to mention the views. From the outside with the incredible Perigourdine rooftops and honey coloured stone walls clad in wisteria to the interior with comfortable living areas and gorgeous bedrooms, you are in for a treat.

Accommodation

The accommodation is split between the main farmhouse and the maison d’amis which are within seconds of each other.

Farmhouse

The main farmhouse has a large open plan Kitchen and Dining Area. The Kitchen is well equipped with a large range stove and oven, fridgefFreezer and all the modern conveniences and cooking utensils you could ever require. The antique French farmhouse table easily seats 12 guests with plenty of room still for a seating area. Throughout the farmhouse there are terracotta tiles, traditional stonewall, chunky original beams but the space although warm still has a contemporary feel. The Living Room has 3 large sofas centred around a wood burning stove and majestic fireplace.

Bedrooms

Five of the six bedrooms are in the main Farmhouse.

Ground Floor

On the ground Floor, there are 2 bedrooms at either end of the house as follows;
  • Bedroom 1 is a twin bedroom with an en-suite shower room and is wheelchair accessible.
  • Bedroom 2 is a twin bedroom with an en-suite shower room. (It is possible to add an additional bed to this room if a 13th guest is required)

First Floor

There are three bedrooms on the first floor of the Farmhouse and these are accessed by two separate staircases. The first staircase takes you up to;
  • Bedroom 3 has a super king bed (180cm) with an en-suite shower room with separate double ended bath.
  • Bedroom 4 has a super king bed (180cm) with an en-suite shower room with separate double ended bath.

The second stair case takes you up to;
  • Bedroom 5 has a super king bed (180cm) with en-suite shower room

Maison d’Amis
  • The Maison d’Amis is separate from the main Farmhouse and is the most delightful little house with an open plan Kitchen and dining area as well as living area on the upper garden level. There is large fireplace and 2-3 seater sofa with a flat screen TV (UK and French channels).
  • Bedroom 6 is on the lower level and directly accessible from the garden is the bedroom which has a king bed (160cm). It has an en-suite shower room.

Linen and towels (including pool towels) are all top quality and there are The White Company toiletries provided in each en-suite for guest use.

Additional services can be provided on request such as a chef, yoga and massages, EV fast charging point.

Outside Living

The Domaine is set on the crest of the hilltop with the most fantastic views far across the valley. Thought and care has been given to the design whilst using the historic outbuildings to their maximum ability.

A few steps from the Farmhouse is the Dining Area and Summer Kitchen built into one of the barns. There is a large dining table that seats 12 easily. The Summer Kitchen has a large Gas BBQ, sink, additional fridge and preparation area. There is also a special viewing area to sip your evening cocktail or glass of local wine with views down to the swimming pool and over across the meadows and woodland far into the distance.

The 10m x 5m heated saltwater swimming pool is set prominently below giving maximum views without a neighbour in sight. The travertine terraced surround has 8 recliners, and 4 parasols and 4 deck chairs. The Swimming pool has an electric cover for safety. If you can drag yourself away from the pool there is, in another old cow barn, the boules pitch and the odd cow (don’t worry they are not real). There is table tennis, archery, a football goal, as well as beautiful walks throughout the grounds and local countryside.

The owners live in separate accommodation within the grounds. This is completely away from the accommodation or pool/dining terraces etc and whilst they can be on hand to help if you require, they will offer the utmost privacy and exclusivity of the facilities.
Local Area

In the South of the Dordogne, this region is abundant with bastide medieval villages such as Monpazier, Beaumont and Cadouin, all of which are within a short drive of the Domaine.
Monpazier which is the closest at just under 10 minutes has a weekly morning market each Thursday throughout the year and during the summer months there many other different fetes and celebrations. Beaumont has weekly markets on Tuesday and Saturday.

Further afield, there are many beautiful medieval villages such as Castillonnes, Issigeac and Monflanquin. The Dordogne riverside town of Bergerac is just a 40 minute drive to the north.

Slightly further afield but worth a day trip out to are the towns of La Bugue, Domme and Sarlat to the east and St Emilion and Bordeaux to the west.

The Dordogne is renowned for its gastronomy, particularly foie gras, truffles, and walnut-based dishes. The restaurants range from bistro to fine dining and the produce at the morning markets are not to be missed. The local vineyards are open to tastings throughout the year and a must to visit is Chateau Monbazillac. For history enthusiasts, the region is home to the famous prehistoric cave paintings of Lascaux in Montignac, as well as the imposing Château de Beynac and Château de Castelnaud, which overlook the Dordogne River. Enjoy outdoor activities like canoeing along the river, hiking through the lush countryside, or visiting the stunning gardens of Marqueyssac. The Dordogne is a perfect destination for those seeking both adventure and relaxation.

Getting Here

The Dordogne riverside town of Bergerac with its International Airport is just a 35 minute drive north. The Domaine also has easy access to two larger airports of Bordeaux which is approximately a 2hr 15 minute drive away and Toulouse which is slightly further away at 2hrs 15 minutes away. Bergerac train station is approximately 50 minutes to the North with easy access to Bordeaux from where there are high speed trains to Paris and other destinations.

We have just returned from the most wonderful week at the Domaine. It's not that we were trying to but we could not find one single fault. The owners have clearly thought of everything - the beds are exceptionally comfortable, their restoration is remarkable, every angle and viewpoint is carefully considered and the views and pool are epic (I could go on and on). If you are looking for a relaxing haven amongst fascinating, beautiful countryside and with impeccable hosts then look no further.

The Domaine was great for the 6 of us - kids and grandchildren upstairs at one end of the house, the 2 of us at the other end, with the dining room / kitchen and living room on the ground floor as our common play grounds. We swam in the pool every day except the rainy one; we had lunches out in the neighbouring villages, shopped the local markets, and cooked supper at the house.
