Located just 2.5km from a charming local village (famed for its August film festival!) and 5km from the bustling market town of Cazals, you are perfectly placed to explore the best of the region. From swimming at Lac Vert (10 mins) to canoeing the majestic Dordogne River near the cliffside village of Domme, there is no shortage of outdoor pursuits. Head to Sarlat-la-Canéda for world-class truffles and duck, or spend an evening wandering the candlelit Jardins de Marqueyssac. You are just 30 minutes from Cahors, where you can sample some of the world’s finest Malbecs and visit the UNESCO-listed Pont Valentré.

My family converged at this lovely home in the rural Dordogne, travelling from three parts of the world… the US, the UK, and the Netherlands. As the old patriarch now I guess, it was great to have everyone together and the house accommodated family meals together inside and outside, as well as drinks in the main living room. The jacuzzi’s were used a lot, and we forced the kids to have one while us adults took the one with views on the terrace. A great place for our family to gather.

A spectacular venue for our extended family retreat. Our group of 14 were swallowed by the property with space for everyone to enjoy. The kids were in the pool mostly but watching movies or playing games on one of the two 80” TVs was also popular. Great house, great location.

The week went too fast. We loved our days out, particularly the Kayaking on the Dordogne and the Caves of Padirac. We also had two evenings were we were catered for (for a fee)—the food was great, and we enjoyed those evenings. We ate out for three other nights in our week, twice at the excellent local restaurant in Gindou. The house is fabulous. You do need a car however and sometimes we arranged for a driver.
